St James, Skaneateles, and their E M Skinner, Op 644

An Inside Look at the St James Organ, Skaneateles, NY

At the last OHS convention, we visited this quaint little village and heard the E M Skinner played by Rosalind Mohnsen. I don’t like “removing air” from an organ, but if anyone could make a good decision in this, it is our friend, Ryan Boyle, who was head of that convention. See these photos and watch the video.

Over the years the organ has had various upgrades the latest this past year done by Kerner & Merchant Pipe Organ Builders, Syracuse. Their work was done while other interior renovations were taking place in the church. The instrument was partially dismantled and many of pipes put into storage to minimize damage from dust and other potential hazards during construction work. Kerner and Merchant also used this down time to upgraded the organ, replacing all the 1920’s era electro-mechanical switches with a computerized controlling system.
