Isaac van Vleck Flagler (1840-1909) is nearly unknown today, but he
was an important American organist with a fascinating career in upstate New
York. These variations on “America” would be recognized in the
United Kingdom as “God Save the King.” Flagler
performed them on the V/160 Los Angeles Art Organ at the St Louis World’s
Fair of 1904 listed as
Concert
Piece on the National Hymn Tune, “America.” Difficult,
but a worthy challenge.
