Henry Thomas Smart (1813-1879) was an English organist and is today remembered for this piece and for his hymntunes,
Regent Square and Lancashire. This active pedal part is not typical of English music of this time. Postlude in D
is Smart’s second postlude of the series; the one in Volume I is in C. Moderately difficult.
