W Southwick, possibly W H Southwick, is of unknown origin.
An arranger of choral music, he composed his Offertory in G Major in the style of “Communion in G,” Op 4, No 1,
by Edouard Batiste. Southwick’s Offertory was first published in New York City as a work for hire, wherein the composer retained the
copyright. Its arpeggiated and chromatic pianistic figurations would influence organ composers for several decades and challenges the organist to be
expressive above and beyond a secure technique. Moderate.
