Wilhelm Adam Valentin Volckmar (1812-1887) was the son of a German high school teacher and attended music school
in violin. His father held an impressive place in organ history because he studied with Johann Gottfried Vierling, a student of
C P E Bach who of course studied with J S Bach.
Eugene Thayer (1838-1889), a contemporary of Dudley Buck and John Knowles Paine, added pedaling and registration and
provided for the American publication of this composition. Moderate.
