George E Whiting (1840-1923), a student of W T Best, was head of the organ department at New England Conservatory
and organist for the Boston and Cincinnati Music Halls. His
Grand Sonata, Opus 25, composed after his return to Boston,
is his most elaborate organ composition. It was published in Boston in 1890 for $2.50. In 2013, that value
is equal to
$67.00! This is a major work by an
AGO founder from six years before the AGO was founded.
Difficult.
