Richard Keys Biggs (1886–1962) was
organist-choirmaster at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Hollywood, California, and was a prominent teacher, notably of
Anthony Newman. His Toccata, based on the response to “Go, the Mass is ended” at the conclusion of the Mass. The fast,
exciting notes of the right hand fit well under the hands. The piece is dedicated to David Craighead (1924–2012), who at the time,
June 1, 1942, had performed at Blessed Sacrament while a student of Clarence Mader. Moderate.
