George William Henry Faulkes (1863-1933) was born in Liverpool, England. He learned music from his sister and at
age ten, he began singing as a chorister at St Margaret’s Church near his home. He later studied theory, organ, and composition
before accepting in 1882 the position of organist at St John the Baptist in Liverpool. In 1886, he returned to St Margaret’s as
organist/choirmaster. He continued playing, conducting, and composing until his death in 1933. He wrote more than 400 organ works.
His compositions were of such quality that W T Best, a noted critic of the highest standards, offered his approval of Faulkes’s
music. Moderate.
