Karl August Haupt (1810-1891) was famous for organ concerts which often included improvisations in the style
of J S Bach. In history, he is regarded as the greatest teacher of American organists; more than 150 Americans studied under
him, and these include John Knowles Paine, Eugene Thayer, and Clarence Eddy. Please note that Haupt wrote his canons on a
chorale melody earlier than the tune presented by Bach in the Musicalisches Gesangbuch (Schemelli Songbook) of 1736. Moderate.
