Franz Josef “Papa” Haydn (1732-1809)
contributed one of the most famous string quartets ever written in his Opus
76, Number 3. It received the name Kaiserquartett (Emperor
Quartet) due to the quoting in the second movement from his previously
written anthem to the Emperor. Friedrich Lux (1820-1895) maintains
the tenderness and delicacy of the melody throughout an adds a brief climactic
passage at the end. Moderately easy.
