This Is Newly Printed Music
Samuel
Jackson (1818-1885) was born in England and moved with his family
to New York City in 1825. He served as a church organist and later
worked as a proofreader for G Schirmer. This volume contains four collections
of voluntaries for manuals, put together for this edition by Cecilia Jackson,
the composer’s
wife. The first is the earliest from
1865 (Beer & Schirmer) and the fourth is from 1874 (G Schirmer). These
pieces are simple and beautiful, evoking the calmer life of their time.
Most listeners would welcome such music for service voluntaries. Easy.
