Edwin H Lemare (1865-1934) is perhaps the best known organist in the
art of transcription. The
Andantino in D-flat is his most
famous work and ironically received widespread fame in a “transcription” of
its own as a popular song, “Moonlight and Roses.” This is a restoration
of the original edition from Robert Cocks of London; Lemare later revised it,
and that is the version played and heard today. Dr John C Henderson, Hon. Librarian
to the
Royal School of Church Music, provided
co-operation and assistance that made this restoration possible. Moderately easy.
