Franz Liszt, originally Liszt Ferencz in Hungarian, (1811-1886) studied composition with Antonio Salieri with
influence from Berlioz and Paganini. Perhaps being published so soon after World War I, Presser titled it “Love Dream”
instead of its German original, “Liebestraum.” It was originally Liszt’s Nocturne No 3 for piano (1850).
Harvey B Gaul (1881-1945), student of Buck, Guilmant and Widor, is best known for his prolific output of compositions and
transcriptions. He was also known for his scholarly writing, and you can
read
an example from 1918. Moderate.
