Will C Macfarlane (1870-1945), a prolific recitalist and composer, had
a gift for writing program music that fit the stereotype but avoided syrupy
sentimentality. He was a
founder of the American Guild of Organists.
His notable positions included Temple Emanu-El in
New York City, Ocean Grove Auditorium on the New Jersey coast, and Portland
City Hall in Maine. This gentle, graceful slumber song was issued by the Aeolian
Company as Organ Roll #1130 in 1919. Easy.
