This Is Newly Printed Music
François Xavier Mathias (1871–1939) was a master musician
and priest who was best known for his ability to organize things. He organized
chant choirs, taught them to sing, and wrote music which includes the melody
in such a way that a non-musician can recognize. The biography of his life
is titled The Extraordinary Musician of God. Much of his
music was never published and what did make it to print was presented so
badly that it was unplayable. The Suite Eucharistique is for manuals
alone of either organ or harmonium. This edition corrects the mistakes made
by the original publisher and presents a beautiful suite for organ manuals
that is perfect for the Mass and is atmospheric and evocative in recital.
It is moderately easy, though it contains polyphony throughout.
