This Is Newly Printed Music
Howard Sylvester Savage (1897–1969), born in Harrison, New Jersey, earned a BA from Lincoln and Jefferson College and an
MA from New York University in 1929. His music study was with Robert Alfred Laslett Smith (organ), Alex Berne (piano), Bruce Campbell
(voice) and Orlando J Mansfield (theory). Savage was a music instructor for 38 years at Plainfield High School, Plainfield, New Jersey,
where he organized choirs and an orchestra. He was organist-director in the state at First Methodist Church, Somerville, and at Seventh-Day
Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church in Plainfield. He spent his spare time giving recitals, including on the Hammond organ. His
more-than-50 published compositions include music for piano, organ, voice and choir. This brilliant programmatic toccata really does capture
an aural image of cascades in the sunlight! Moderate.
