Edwin
H Lemare (1865-1934) is perhaps the best known organist in the art
of transcription. Blue Danube is his transcription of
Strauss’s
ever-popular An
der schönen blauen Donau (On the Beautiful Blue Danube),
Op. 314. Lemare based his transcription on the first version (performed
February 9, 1867) that uses chorus, so the ending is not the one usually
heard today by orchestras, and this trims about two minutes from the 10:00
length. Moderate.
