Firmin Swinnen (1885-1972), born in Belgium,
is best known for his involvement with the organs at the du Pont estate, Longwood Gardens. Swinnen was in the midst of his tenure as
organist at Longwood Gardens at the time of writing this suite. This programmatic music is dramatic and requires an orchestral organ for
best effect. Moderate.
This movement is still more or less in the old style. It sketches flowers and plants in all their beauty, while humming bees and butterflies
whirl around them. —Firmin Swinnen, April 21, 1927 |
