Jaromír Weinberger (1896-1967) was born on January 8, 1896, in Prague, Czecho-Slovakia. His musical education was secured
at the Prague Conservatory under Kricka and Hofmeister, and later in Germany with Max Reger. In 1927 his opera, Schwanda the Bagpiper,
had its world premiere at the Czech National Theatre, Prague, immediately establishing a world-wide reputation for its composer. Among his other
compositions are the operas Outcast of Poker Flat, Wallenstein and The Beloved Voice. Since his arrival in New York
in January, 1939, he has composed several new works, including two orchestral pieces, Variations and Fugue on “Under the Spreading
Chestnut Tree” and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, as well as the present Suite for organ. Mr. Weinberger’s melodic inspiration
and mastery of technique have made him a leading figure among contemporary composers. (H W Gray Editor's Note, 1939) Moderate to moderately difficult.
