David Johnson was chair of the music department of St Olaf College, organ professor at Syracuse University, and organist-choirmaster of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Phoenix, Arizona. He composed several trumpet tunes for organ in the 18th century English form. Allegro maestoso, the second of his Three Festival Pieces for trumpet and organ, is an arrangement of his Trumpet Tune in C.
