I have taken two of my tongue-in-cheek pieces written in 1985 and put them together in this edition. They are
Miniature Fantasy on Wonderful Words and
Those Wonderful Words. Many of you
will recognize the tune fragments used from “Wonderful Words of Life,” a gospel tune by P P Bliss
from 1874. Highest quality guaranteed. Size of music is
9.5" x 12.5". $10.00.
Michael Johnston (b 1956) studied piano (Flora Neeley) and composition (Michael Pittard) from early ages
with the intent to learn the organ. He is a graduate of Mars Hill College (Donna Nagey Robertson) and Westminster Choir
College (William Hays) and with John Apple began
Michael's Music Service.
Wonderful Words or
Words of Life has always fascinated me as a simplistic tune designed as a 19th century earworm designed to carry a strident gospel message on its back. The “let’s-go-skating” design of the tune always seemed oddly out of place for me and was therefore a prime candidate for parody. Easy.
